LEGO® BASED THERAPY
Lego® based therapy is a fun and flexible group therapy program that was originally designed for children with Autism and children with Social Skills Difficulties. It has also been adapted and used for children who purely have language difficulties and those that are reluctant speakers. The groups are great for children aged 5 and up.
Lego® based therapy targets the following interaction and language skills:
- Turn taking skills
- Attention and listening
- Working together in a team
- Receptive language including following instructions
- Expressive language including vocabulary
- Problem solving
What happens during the sessions?
A group of 3-4 people collaborate with each other to build a Lego® Model while following instructions. Each person has a different job to do:
The Engineer: describes the instructions
The Supplier: finds the pieces
The Builder: puts the pieces together
The Checker: ensures the build is going to plan
The group run for 45 minutes once a week for 6 weeks.
At the end of the 6 weeks, a summary of the student’s skills will be sent to parents.
We will be running the groups in the clinic.
